Cerro Castor, Tierra del Fuego: skiing with a breathtaking view

Cerro Castor, 26 kilometers northeast of Ushuaia, in the extreme south of Argentine Patagonia, is the most modern ski resort in Argentina. Most winter sports enthusiasts arrive in Ushuaia on a 3 hour 30-minute flight from Buenos Aires. Fans generally base themselves in Ushuaia, a lively city, and then drive daily for a few kilometers via the motorway to the Cerro Castor lifts; the capital of Tierra del Fuego, in addition to offering more accommodation and typical restaurants, offers incredible landscapes featuring simultaneously sea, mountains, glaciers and obviously lots of snow. The panorama element is certainly the added value during the descents and makes the experience unique in the world. The Cerro Castor ski resort, inaugurated only in ’99 and immersed in the imposing Tierra del Fuego National Park, has 12 ski lifts, 32 skiable slopes suitable for all levels of experience. In addition to these, there are also trails for cross-country skiing that cross uncontaminated woods and glaciers from whose tops you can admire fjords and islands as far as the eye can see (in particular on the Beagle Channel ). Trekking routes where you can venture out on snowshoes, with husky sleds, photo safaris, and ice skating are the other mountain activities you can do in Cerro. In addition to the groomed slopes, Cerro Castor is also famous for off-piste, it is an ideal place for freestylers and snowboarders. In fact, at their disposal a snow park (the largest in South America) and special slopes with jumps and humps. In combination with the day trips, both by land in the Tierra del Fuego National Park and by the sea with cruises departing from Ushuaia in search of the local fauna, the stay in the far South of the World can be made fun, adrenaline and incredibly suggestive at the same time.
